81% of New Z-Wave Certifications Are Now Long Range

160 of the 556 products in the Z-Wave Alliance certified catalog are Long Range certified — 28.8%. But among the certifications issued in Q2 2026, 21 of 26 were Long Range: 81%.

That gap between the installed catalog and the newest certifications is the whole story of Z-Wave Long Range adoption. LR is still under a third of everything ever certified, and it is already four fifths of everything being certified now. We counted it ourselves, straight from the Alliance catalog, rather than repeating a figure from a press release.

How we count A product counts as Long Range only if its Alliance catalog record lists the exact region code US_LR. We exclude EU_LR, which is a different market on a different frequency. This is stricter than most published LR counts, so our number will usually be lower than figures quoted elsewhere — for example the widely repeated “125 LR devices” from CES 2026, which pools regions. If you cite our figure, cite the definition with it.

Quarter-to-quarter movement in a market this size is noisy — 2025 Q2 at 25% sits next to 2025 Q1 at 55% on samples of only twenty certifications each. The trend across six quarters is the signal; any single quarter is not.

Read the annual totals and Long Range looks flat: about 35 to 40 a year since 2023. Read the share column in the previous table and it is the opposite of flat. What changed is not how many LR devices get certified — it is that classic mesh-only certifications have largely stopped. The denominator collapsed.

Switches, locks and sensors lead, which tracks with where Long Range actually earns its keep: devices at the edge of a property where a mesh hop is unreliable or absent. Dimming lighting devices sit at 16 — one of the thinner categories, and the one the LAMP-ZW2 competes in.

How concentrated is the Long Range catalog?

Very. The single largest certificate holder accounts for 39 of the 160 US_LR products — 24.4% of the entire Long Range catalog. The top ten holders together account for roughly half. For specifiers this matters more than it looks: a category that appears to have plenty of Long Range options often has one vendor behind most of them, and a second source can be genuinely hard to find.

A caution about trend lines drawn from this data The Alliance archive is a live snapshot, not a historical ledger. When a product is delisted its record leaves the catalog, so counts for older quarters drift downward over time. Our figures describe the catalog as it stood on the pull date. Comparing our Q3 2026 numbers against a differently dated pull will produce small discrepancies for historical quarters, and that is the data behaving correctly rather than an error.

Specify 800 LR on new work

At 81% of new certifications, Long Range is where the hardware is going. Specifying a mesh-only device today means specifying from a shrinking pool.

Check your second source

With one holder at 24.4% of the LR catalog, a category can look well-supplied until you need an alternate. Confirm a second source before you standardise.

Mind the thin categories

Switches and locks are well covered. Dimming sits at 16 certified LR products, so options there are genuinely limited.

  • Long Range test: the record’s frequency list contains the exact code US_LR. EU_LR is excluded. A substring match on “LR” would capture both and inflate the count.
