Versa Launches Four Z-Wave 800 Long Range Devices

Product launch - Z-Wave Fall Summit 2026

Versa Wireless launched four new Z-Wave 800 Long Range devices at the Z-Wave Fall Summit 2026 in Boca Raton: the SWITCH-ZW light switch, the DIM-ZW dimmer switch, the PLUG-ZW smart plug and the PLUG-OD-ZW outdoor plug.

You know us for the sensors on your panels. Now we also make the Z-Wave light switch, dimmer switch, smart plug and outdoor plug that end up on the same jobs, all on one radio, all paired the same way. All four Versa devices are Z-Wave Plus certified and ETL Listed, and they're Z-Wave 800 Long Range: up to 1300 ft direct-to-controller (LR) - 330 ft (100 m) per hop (mesh). Add the LAMP-ZW2 plug-in dimmer we already sell and that's five Versa Z-Wave Long Range devices for your dealer jobs.

The short version Here's what the four do. The SWITCH-ZW replaces a wall switch and puts that light on the panel. The DIM-ZW does the same, but dims the light. The PLUG-ZW goes into any indoor outlet and switches whatever you plug into it. And the PLUG-OD-ZW is the outdoor plug, sealed to IP65, with two outlets you can control separately. They all run on the same radio, pair the same way with a QR code, and use S2 security.

What we announced at the Z-Wave Fall Summit

The Z-Wave Fall Summit 2026 ran September 29 through October 1 at the Renaissance in Boca Raton, Florida. We're a Z-Wave Alliance member and were one of this year's sponsors, with our table at the entrance to the session rooms.

We brought four devices: the SWITCH-ZW, an in-wall light switch; the DIM-ZW, an in-wall dimmer; the PLUG-ZW, an indoor smart plug; and the PLUG-OD-ZW, an outdoor plug with two outlets. All four are Z-Wave Plus certified and they're ETL Listed by Intertek under control number 5030071. Every box has a printed manual in it, and the same manual is on versawireless.com.

The four new Versa Z-Wave devices at a glance

Device What it does Where it goes ETL load rating at 125 VAC Worth knowing
Versa SWITCH-ZW In-wall on/off light switch Single-gang box, single-pole or 3-way, neutral required 1875 W (15 A) general purpose or resistive; 1250 W (10 A) tungsten, incandescent, ballast or LED; 1/2 HP motor The 3-way companion stays a plain mechanical switch and carries no load current
Versa DIM-ZW In-wall dimmer switch Single-gang box, single-pole or 3-way, neutral required 600 W incandescent (500 W in a 2-gang, 400 W in a 3-gang); 300 W dimmable LED or CFL Set the minimum and maximum brightness from the hub or at the paddle
Versa PLUG-ZW Indoor smart plug, one switched outlet Grounded 3-wire indoor receptacle 15 A general purpose or resistive; 10 A / 1250 W tungsten; 1/2 HP motor 2.63" x 1.54" x 1.14"; on and off timers live in the plug
Versa PLUG-OD-ZW Outdoor plug, two switched outlets Covered Class A GFCI weatherproof receptacle, outlets facing down 15 A general purpose; 15 A resistive; 1250 W incandescent; 1250 W tungsten; 1/2 HP motor, per outlet and for both together Each outlet is its own Z-Wave endpoint; IP65; -4 to 122 deg F

Versa SWITCH-ZW: the Z-Wave light switch

The Versa SWITCH-ZW is a Z-Wave light switch. It goes in place of a regular single-pole or 3-way paddle switch. You wire it in, pair it, and now that light is on the panel.

For load, the ETL listing on the SWITCH-ZW says 1875 W (15 A) general purpose or resistive, 1250 W (10 A) for tungsten, incandescent, ballast or LED, and a 1/2 HP motor, all at 125 VAC. You do need a neutral in the box, copper wire only (14 AWG or bigger), and a single-gang box that's at least 2-3/4" deep.

The 3-way setup is the part worth reading twice. The SWITCH-ZW goes in the box that has line power, and the other location keeps a plain mechanical 3-way switch. That second switch isn't carrying the light. It just opens and closes a low-current signal loop on the TRAVELER terminal, and the light itself is fed from the SWITCH-ZW's LOAD terminal. So there's no load current going through the companion switch at all.

Double-tap the top of the paddle and you get Scene 1. Double-tap the bottom and you get Scene 2. The QR code is on the metal yoke under the paddle, and the full DSK is printed on the carton, so don't toss the box before you've paired it. Wiring diagrams and the parameter table are in the SWITCH-ZW installation manual.

Versa DIM-ZW: the Z-Wave dimmer switch

The Versa DIM-ZW is the dimmer. Same single-pole and 3-way circuits, same box, same neutral and 14 AWG copper, but this one dims. The DIM-ZW is rated for 600 W of incandescent, or 300 W of dimmable LED or CFL. One thing to know: if the DIM-ZW shares a 2-gang box, the incandescent number drops to 500 W, and in a 3-gang box it's 400 W.

The setting you'll actually use is the brightness range. You can set the minimum and maximum from the hub with parameters 11 and 12, or you can do it right at the wall: tap the bottom of the paddle five times for the minimum, or the top five times for the maximum, hold to adjust, then five taps again to save. That's how you match the dimmer to whatever fixture is actually on the circuit, without pulling it out of the box again.

It also has soft start, separate fade rates for on/off and for dimming, and Central Scene on a double-tap of either end of the paddle. There's an air-gap pull tab at the bottom of the paddle to kill power when you change a bulb. The rest is in the DIM-ZW installation manual.

Versa PLUG-ZW: the indoor Z-Wave smart plug

The Versa PLUG-ZW is a Z-Wave smart plug that goes into any grounded indoor outlet and gives you one switched outlet, rated at 15 A, which you control from the button on the side or from the hub. The ETL listing on the PLUG-ZW is 15 A general purpose or resistive, 10 A / 1250 W for tungsten, and a 1/2 HP motor at 125 VAC.

That motor rating is the thing. It means this is more than a lamp module, so a box fan or a small pump is fine on it. The housing is 2.63" x 1.54" x 1.14".

The timers are in the plug itself. Set an auto-off or auto-on delay anywhere from 1 to 65535 minutes and the plug keeps that schedule on its own. After a power failure you pick what it does: come back off, come back on, or go back to wherever it was. The blue LED has three brightness levels and an inverted mode, which is the one you want in a bedroom.

The QR code on the plug carries the DSK, so a SmartStart hub adds it on its own with S2 security. Button sequences and parameters are in the PLUG-ZW installation manual.

Versa PLUG-OD-ZW: the Z-Wave outdoor plug

The Versa PLUG-OD-ZW is the outdoor plug: an IP65 polycarbonate body with two grounded outlets that you switch separately. Each outlet is its own Z-Wave endpoint, so on the hub you'll see two switches under one paired device. The nice side effect is that on a panel with a cap on Z-Wave devices, one PLUG-OD-ZW only takes one slot for two outlets. The PLUG-OD-ZW is rated from -4 to 122 deg F.

For load, the ETL listing on the PLUG-OD-ZW is 15 A general purpose, 15 A resistive, 1250 W incandescent, 1250 W tungsten, or a 1/2 HP motor at 125 VAC, and that's the limit for each outlet on its own and for both of them together. At the plug, one tap is the left outlet, two taps is the right, and a three-second hold does both. Each outlet gets its own auto-off and auto-on timer.

The PLUG-OD-ZW needs a covered Class A GFCI weatherproof receptacle on a 20 A branch circuit. Hang it with the outlets facing down so water runs off instead of in, and keep the Versa plug more than 1 ft off the ground. The DSK is printed on the box, so hang onto the box until the plug is paired. The PLUG-OD-ZW installation manual has the full receptacle and mounting requirements.

What all four share

All four, the Versa SWITCH-ZW, DIM-ZW, PLUG-ZW and PLUG-OD-ZW, use the same radio, pair the same way, and sit under the same Intertek control number, 5030071.

Z-Wave 800 Long Range

All four Versa devices run 908.42 / 916 MHz mesh - 912 / 920 MHz LR. Range on each Versa device: Up to 1300 ft direct-to-controller (LR) - 330 ft (100 m) per hop (mesh). Long Range needs an 800 Series controller with Long Range turned on. On a classic mesh, all four repeat for the powered devices around them.

SmartStart with S2 security

Scan the QR code and the device joins on its own with S2 security. The Versa switch and dimmer have 10 minutes from power-up to join; the plugs join as soon as you plug them in. If you'd rather add one to a classic mesh by hand, it's three quick presses on the paddle or the button.

Certified, listed, warranted

All four are Z-Wave Plus certified on the Z-Wave 800 Series, SDK 7.24.1, ETL Listed by Intertek to UL 60730-1 under control number 5030071, and FCC Part 15 Class B under Versa's own FCC IDs. Two-year warranty. All four Versa devices are US 125 VAC, 60 Hz.

All four Versa devices work with any certified Z-Wave controller, on 500, 700 or 800 Series networks. The ones we list on every product page are 2GIG EDGE, Qolsys IQ, SmartThings, Hubitat and Home Assistant with a Z-Wave 800 controller, and Ring Alarm Pro on the two plugs. Each product page also spells out its configuration parameters and association groups.

Pick the pairing mode by the job Here's the one decision you make at pairing time. Long Range is a straight shot from the device to the controller. If you scan the QR code into a Long Range controller, the device talks to the hub and nothing else, and that's exactly what you want for a detached garage, a barn, or the far end of a property. If instead you add it to the classic mesh with the paddle or the button, it becomes a repeater for its neighbors, which is what you want in the middle of a house that's full of Z-Wave gear. Device-to-device association (group 2) works on the mesh. On Long Range you'd build that same thing as an automation on the hub. Eric Ryherd's DrZWave range tests got a whole suburban yard, and over a mile in an open field, out of Long Range's higher transmit power. Versa's own Z-Wave 800 Long Range explainer goes into what that 1300 ft number does and doesn't mean.

Why a sensor company builds Z-Wave switches and plugs

Dealers kept telling us the same thing. The job that puts our contacts and motion detectors on a 2GIG EDGE or a Qolsys IQ panel also wants a lamp module, a wall switch and an outdoor outlet on that panel's Z-Wave radio. So we decided to cover the home automation side of that job as well, on one radio family, from one brand, with one way to pair.

The line started with the LAMP-ZW2 plug-in dimmer, which is Alarm.com approved. The four we launched at the summit take it to the wall box, the indoor outlet and the outdoor receptacle. All five are Long Range, and that's on purpose, because that's where the platform is going. Versa's Long Range tracker counted the Z-Wave Alliance certifications issued in Q2 2026: 21 of 26 were Long Range, or 81%, up from 25% a year earlier.

Frequently asked questions

What did Versa Wireless announce at the Z-Wave Fall Summit 2026?

Four new Z-Wave 800 Long Range devices: the Versa SWITCH-ZW light switch, the Versa DIM-ZW dimmer switch, the Versa PLUG-ZW smart plug and the Versa PLUG-OD-ZW outdoor plug. Together with the Versa LAMP-ZW2 plug-in dimmer, that makes a five-device Z-Wave line. The summit ran September 29 to October 1, 2026 at the Renaissance Boca Raton in Florida, and Versa was one of the sponsors.

Are the new Versa Z-Wave devices Long Range?

Yes, all four. The Versa SWITCH-ZW, DIM-ZW, PLUG-ZW and PLUG-OD-ZW are Z-Wave Plus certified on the Z-Wave 800 Series with Long Range. Range on each Versa device: Up to 1300 ft direct-to-controller (LR) - 330 ft (100 m) per hop (mesh). To get Long Range you need an 800 Series controller with Long Range turned on, and you pair by scanning the SmartStart QR code.

Which hubs and security panels work with the Versa SWITCH-ZW, DIM-ZW, PLUG-ZW and PLUG-OD-ZW?

Any certified Z-Wave controller, on 500, 700 or 800 Series networks. The ones Versa lists for all four are 2GIG EDGE, Qolsys IQ, SmartThings, Hubitat and Home Assistant with a Z-Wave 800 controller, plus Ring Alarm Pro for the PLUG-ZW and PLUG-OD-ZW. For Long Range mode you need an 800 Series controller with Long Range turned on.

Can the Versa PLUG-OD-ZW switch its two outlets separately?

Yes. Each outlet on the Versa PLUG-OD-ZW is its own Z-Wave endpoint, so the hub shows two switches under one paired device, and each one gets its own auto-on and auto-off timer. At the plug, one tap is the left outlet, two taps is the right, and a three-second hold does both. The load ratings are per outlet, and the same limit applies to both together.

Should I pair a Versa Z-Wave plug or switch in Long Range or on the mesh?

Depends on the job. When distance to the hub is the problem, a garage, a barn, an outlet at the far end of the property, scan the QR code into a Long Range controller. When you want it to repeat for its neighbors, or to drive another device directly through association group 2, add it to the classic mesh with the button or paddle. On Long Range a device only talks to the controller, so you'd build that device-to-device behavior as a hub automation instead.

When will the four new Versa Z-Wave devices be available?

Versa will announce availability and where to buy in the next couple of weeks. In the meantime the SWITCH-ZW, DIM-ZW, PLUG-ZW and PLUG-OD-ZW product pages and installation manuals are already on versawireless.com, with the full specs, wiring, pairing steps and configuration parameters for each one.
