Five Z-Wave 800 Long Range devices for lighting and plug-in loads
Versa Wireless builds five Z-Wave devices on Z-Wave 800 Series Long Range. So there's one for each way you'd put a light or a plug-in load under hub control. The LAMP-ZW2 is a plug-in dimmer for lamps, and it's the Alarm.com approved device in the line. The DIM-ZW is the in-wall dimmer and the SWITCH-ZW is the in-wall light switch. Both go in a single-pole or 3-way box that has a neutral. The PLUG-ZW switches a lamp or a small appliance from an indoor outlet. And the PLUG-OD-ZW is the IP65 outdoor plug, with two outlets you switch separately.
Long Range is the reason to pick this line. Every one of the five carries the same rating: Up to 1300 ft direct-to-controller (LR) - 330 ft (100 m) per hop (mesh). On Long Range the device talks straight to the controller. So a plug at the end of a driveway, or a switch in a detached garage, is one link with nothing in between. On classic mesh the signal hops device to device instead. Every one of these is mains-powered, so on mesh it repeats for its neighbors. You pick the mode when you pair, and we'll get to that below.
Everything else is common across the five. They all pair by SmartStart, so you scan the Z-Wave QR code and the device joins on its own with S2 encryption. They all hold their own timers, with an auto turn-on and an auto turn-off from 1 to 65535 minutes. And they all remember what to do after a power cut. All five are Z-Wave Plus certified, ETL Listed by Intertek and FCC Part 15 Class B. We back each one with a 2 year warranty. Any Z-Wave certified controller runs them, and we officially list 2GIG EDGE, Qolsys IQ, SmartThings, Hubitat and Home Assistant with a Z-Wave 800 controller. The LAMP-ZW2 adds Alarm.com to that list.
So the choice comes down to the load and the wiring. A hardwired circuit gets the DIM-ZW when it needs a brightness level, and the SWITCH-ZW when it only needs on and off. A lamp gets the LAMP-ZW2. An indoor appliance gets the PLUG-ZW, and anything outside gets the PLUG-OD-ZW. Start with the load you're controlling

Dim a lamp or a portable fixture
The LAMP-ZW2 sits between a grounded indoor outlet and the lamp, so there's no wiring at all. It dims from 10 to 99 percent as shipped, on up to 200W incandescent or 100W dimmable CFL/LED. It's also the one to reach for on an Alarm.com account, because it's officially approved there and runs natively on a dealer account.
Dim a hardwired fixture from the wall
The DIM-ZW replaces a single-pole or 3-way wall switch in a box with a neutral. It puts the ceiling fixture on a real brightness level, and it carries 600W incandescent or 300W dimmable LED or CFL. You trim the minimum and maximum from the hub or right at the paddle.
Switch a hardwired circuit on and off
The SWITCH-ZW takes the same box and the same single-pole or 3-way wiring as the dimmer. It switches the circuit instead of dimming it, which is what gives it the biggest ratings in the line: 1875 W (15 A) general purpose or resistive, 1250 W (10 A) tungsten, incandescent, ballast or LED, and a 1/2 HP motor.
Switch a lamp or an appliance at the outlet
The PLUG-ZW plugs into any grounded indoor outlet and gives you one switched outlet. You run it from the button on the side or from your hub. It's rated for 15 A general purpose or resistive, 10 A / 1250 W tungsten and a 1/2 HP motor, so it runs a fan or a small pump as well as a lamp.
Switch two loads outside
The PLUG-OD-ZW hangs from a covered GFCI receptacle outdoors. It gives you two grounded outlets you switch separately, each on its own Z-Wave endpoint. The IP65 housing runs from -4 to 122 deg F. The plug is rated for 15 A total between the 2 outlets, so you share that between the two loads.

Add any Versa Z-Wave device to a controller
Pick the mode by where it sits
Long Range is for the device at the end of a long run, like the outdoor plug across the yard or the switch in a detached garage. A device in the middle of a house full of Z-Wave is usually better on mesh, because there it also repeats for its neighbors. Either way, Long Range needs a controller with Long Range enabled.
Add it by QR code
Scan the Z-Wave QR code on the device with your controller app, then power it up. It joins on its own with S2 encryption. On a controller with Long Range enabled, this is how it joins in Long Range mode. On the two in-wall devices you turn the breaker off and wire them in first.
Or add it by button or paddle
Set the controller to add a device. Then press the button three times quickly, or the top paddle on the DIM-ZW and the SWITCH-ZW. The LED flashes while it joins, and this route puts the device on the classic mesh.
Remove or reset it
To remove it, set the controller to remove a device and press the button or the bottom paddle three times quickly. To factory reset it, press twice quickly and hold the third press for ten seconds. Use the reset only when the controller is gone or won't respond.
The two in-wall devices need a neutral in the box and copper wire. You turn the breaker off and test the box before you touch a terminal. The exact wiring and every parameter are on each product page and in its installation manual.

Which Versa Z-Wave device is Alarm.com approved?
The LAMP-ZW2 plug-in dimmer. It's officially Alarm.com approved, so if you run Alarm.com accounts you can add it to a customer install and control it natively from the platform. There's no second app and no workaround. It's also listed in the Alarm.com knowledge base as a supported Z-Wave Long Range light.
That approval is specific to the LAMP-ZW2. The other four work with any Z-Wave certified controller, and we officially list 2GIG EDGE, Qolsys IQ, SmartThings, Hubitat and Home Assistant for each of them.
What is Z-Wave 800 Long Range, and how far does it reach?
Long Range is a radio mode where the device talks directly to the controller instead of hopping through the mesh. Every Versa device carries the same two figures: Up to 1300 ft direct-to-controller (LR) - 330 ft (100 m) per hop (mesh). The two numbers measure different things. On Long Range, 1300 ft is one link with nothing in between. On mesh, 330 ft is one hop, and the network reaches further by chaining hops through other mains-powered devices.
That's what makes it practical at the end of a driveway, in a detached garage or across a big yard. Those are the spots where a mesh signal usually runs out. Long Range needs a controller with Long Range enabled, and the device joins that mode by SmartStart QR scan. Add it by button or paddle instead and it joins the classic mesh.
Should I use an in-wall switch or dimmer, or a plug-in module?
Go by what the load needs and how it's wired. A hardwired lighting circuit on a single-pole or 3-way run with a neutral gets the DIM-ZW when it needs a brightness level. It gets the SWITCH-ZW when it only needs on and off. A lamp or a portable fixture gets the LAMP-ZW2, because it dims and there's no wiring change.
A lamp or an appliance on an indoor outlet that only needs on and off gets the PLUG-ZW. Anything outside gets the PLUG-OD-ZW, and so does any job where one device needs to switch two loads separately. All five sit on the same Z-Wave 800 Long Range network. Do the Versa Z-Wave devices work with SmartThings, Hubitat and Home Assistant?
Yes. All five work with any Z-Wave certified controller. We officially list SmartThings, Hubitat and Home Assistant with a Z-Wave 800 controller, alongside the 2GIG EDGE and Qolsys IQ panels, and the LAMP-ZW2 adds Alarm.com.
Long Range mode needs a controller with Long Range enabled, and the device enrolls in that mode by SmartStart QR scan. On a controller without Long Range the device still works. It joins the classic mesh instead, where it also repeats for its neighbors.
Do the DIM-ZW and SWITCH-ZW need a neutral wire?
Yes, both of them. Line, load, neutral and ground all land on the device, plus the red traveler on a 3-way, and there's no no-neutral mode. Line and load aren't interchangeable either, so check which is which before you wire. Both take copper wire only, 14 AWG on the DIM-ZW and 14 AWG or larger on the SWITCH-ZW.
In a 3-way the second location stays an ordinary mechanical switch, and the Versa device goes in the box with line power. So before you pick either one for a location, open the box and make sure there's a neutral in it. If there isn't, the plug-in route still works, because the LAMP-ZW2 dims a lamp and the PLUG-ZW switches one right at the outlet.
Do these devices work as Z-Wave repeaters?
On a classic mesh, yes. All five are mains-powered, so each one passes traffic for other devices and strengthens coverage around it. That's often the reason you put a plug halfway down a hallway or a switch in a back bedroom.
There's a catch worth knowing before you pair. Long Range is a direct link to the controller. So a device added in Long Range mode has one neighbor, and it repeats for nothing while it's in that mode. You pick the mode by the job. Scan the QR code to a Long Range controller when you need reach, and add it by button or paddle to the classic mesh when you want a repeater.
