Z-Wave 800 Smart Home Devices

Z-Wave 800 Smart Home

Z-Wave 800 Long Range control for lighting and appliances, in-wall and plug-in.

Versa's Z-Wave line runs on the 800 Series with Long Range: up to 1300 ft direct-to-controller on Long Range, or 330 ft (100 m) per hop on classic mesh. Five devices cover the job five ways. The SWITCH-ZW is an in-wall on/off light switch for hardwired circuits. The DIM-ZW is an in-wall dimmer switch for the same circuits when they need a level rather than a state. The LAMP-ZW2 is a plug-in dimmer for lamps and portable fixtures, and it is officially Alarm.com approved. The PLUG-ZW is a plug-in on/off smart plug that switches a lamp or an appliance from a standard grounded outlet. The PLUG-OD-ZW is the outdoor one, an IP65 plug-in module with two grounded outlets that switch separately. Every device supports SmartStart QR pairing and S2 encrypted inclusion, and acts as a repeater for the classic mesh. Every device works with any Z-Wave certified controller; Long Range mode needs an 800 Series controller with Long Range enabled.

SWITCH-ZW - in-wall on/off

1875W (15A) resistive, 1250W (10A) incandescent, LED or ballast. Single-pole or 3-way, neutral required.

DIM-ZW - in-wall dimmer

600W incandescent or halogen, 300W dimmable LED or CFL, with adjustable minimum and maximum brightness.

LAMP-ZW2 - plug-in dimmer

200W incandescent or halogen, 100W dimmable LED or CFL. Alarm.com approved, with native dealer-account control.

PLUG-ZW - plug-in on/off

15A general purpose or resistive, 10A / 1250W tungsten, 1/2 HP motor. One switched grounded outlet, no wiring.

PLUG-OD-ZW - outdoor, 2 outlets

15A general purpose or resistive, 1250W incandescent or tungsten, 1/2 HP motor, per outlet and for both together. Two outlets switched separately, IP65, -4 to 122 deg F.

Z-Wave 800 questions dealers ask

What Z-Wave devices does Versa Wireless make?

Versa Wireless builds its Z-Wave 800 Series Long Range line around five devices. The LAMP-ZW2 is a plug-in smart dimmer for lamps and portable fixtures, and it is Alarm.com approved. The PLUG-ZW is a plug-in on/off smart plug for a lamp or an appliance, rated to 15A general purpose or resistive, 10A / 1250W tungsten and a 1/2 HP motor. The DIM-ZW is an in-wall dimmer switch for hardwired lighting circuits, rated to 600W incandescent or halogen and 300W dimmable LED or CFL. The SWITCH-ZW is an in-wall on/off light switch rated to 1875W (15A) general purpose or resistive, 1250W (10A) tungsten, incandescent, ballast or LED, and a 1/2 HP motor. The PLUG-OD-ZW is an outdoor plug-in smart plug with two grounded outlets that switch separately, rated to 15A general purpose or resistive, 1250W incandescent or tungsten and a 1/2 HP motor, in an IP65 enclosure. All five support SmartStart pairing, S2 security, and Z-Wave Long Range: up to 1300 ft direct-to-controller (LR) - 330 ft (100 m) per hop (mesh).

Which Versa Z-Wave device is Alarm.com approved?

The LAMP-ZW2 plug-in dimmer is officially Alarm.com approved. Security dealers running Alarm.com accounts can add it to customer installations and control it natively through the Alarm.com platform with no secondary app required. That approval is specific to the LAMP-ZW2 and does not extend to the other Versa Z-Wave devices, which work with all Z-Wave certified controllers.

What is Z-Wave 800 Long Range?

Z-Wave 800 Long Range is a radio mode that lets a device communicate directly with the controller at up to 1300 ft, bypassing the mesh network entirely. Classic Z-Wave mesh covers about 330 ft (100 m) per hop instead. Long Range is particularly useful in large homes, MDU properties, and commercial installs where multi-hop mesh coverage is unreliable. Long Range mode requires an 800 Series controller with Long Range enabled.

Should I use an in-wall switch or dimmer, or a plug-in module?

Choose by what the load needs and how it is wired. Use the SWITCH-ZW when a hardwired lighting circuit needs on/off switching at the wall, on a single-pole or 3-way circuit with a neutral. Use the DIM-ZW when that same hardwired circuit needs a dimming level. Use the LAMP-ZW2 when the fixture is a lamp or a portable fixture that needs dimming and no wiring change is wanted. Use the PLUG-ZW when a lamp or an appliance on a standard grounded outlet only needs on and off. Use the PLUG-OD-ZW when the load is outdoors, or when one device needs to switch two loads separately. All five fit the same Z-Wave 800 Long Range network.

Do the Versa Z-Wave devices work with SmartThings and Hubitat?

Yes. The Versa Z-Wave line works with any Z-Wave certified controller, including SmartThings (Aeotec hub), Hubitat C-8 Pro, Home Assistant with a Z-Wave 800 USB stick, Ring Alarm Pro, 2GIG EDGE and Qolsys IQ. Long Range mode needs an 800 Series controller with Long Range enabled, and the device enrols in Long Range by SmartStart QR scan; a manual inclusion joins the classic mesh instead.
