One Motion Detector, Two Frequencies: Installing the PIR-DUAL on Qolsys and Resideo Panels

Installer Guide

One switch-selectable motion detector covers Qolsys, Interlogix, Honeywell, and 2GIG.

Most motion detectors lock you into one panel ecosystem, so a service tech ends up carrying two or three PIRs just to be ready for whatever's on the wall. The Versa PIR-DUAL is a dual-element motion detector with a switch-selectable radio — flip it to 319.5 MHz for Qolsys and GE/Interlogix, or 345 MHz for Honeywell 5800 and 2GIG. This guide shows the two enrollment paths side by side: a Qolsys IQ Panel 4 on 319.5 MHz, and a Resideo PROA7/PROA7PLUS on 345 MHz.

Set the Frequency First Choose the frequency before you install the battery. On the PIR-DUAL's frequency switch, ON = 319.5 MHz (Qolsys, Interlogix) and OFF = 345 MHz (Honeywell 5800, 2GIG). To change it after the battery is in, pull the battery, move the switch, then reinstall the battery.

One detector instead of a truck full of brands

Residential alarm sensors are split across a handful of sub-GHz frequencies, and the frequency — not the brand badge — is what decides whether a sensor will enroll. The two that cover the bulk of North American residential jobs are 319.5 MHz and 345 MHz. The PIR-DUAL speaks both, so the same box works whether you walk into a Qolsys account or a Honeywell takeover.

PIR-DUAL Setting Frequency Panels It Covers
Switch ON 319.5 MHz Qolsys IQ Panel 2+ / IQ Panel 4 (with 319.5 RF card), GE/Interlogix receivers
Switch OFF 345 MHz Honeywell VISTA (5800-series RF), 2GIG GC2/GC3/EDGE, Resideo PROA7/PROA7PLUS (with PROTAKEOVER)

For a stocking dealer, that's the difference between one line item and three. For a service tech, it means a single motion on the van handles a Qolsys callback in the morning and a VISTA takeover in the afternoon — set the switch to match the panel and enroll.

PANEL 01

Qolsys IQ Panel 4 — 319.5 MHz

What you need

  • Qolsys IQ Panel 4 (or IQ Panel 2+) with the 319.5 MHz RF daughter card installed
  • Installer code (default 1111) or Dealer code (default 2222)
  • PIR-DUAL set to 319.5 MHz (frequency switch ON)
  • One CR123A battery
Check the RF Card Before You Quote the Job The IQ Panel 4 carries PowerG plus one legacy frequency — 319.5 MHz, 345 MHz, or 433 MHz — depending on which RF daughter card was pre-installed at the factory. A 319.5 MHz sensor will only enroll on a panel that has the 319.5 (S-Line/SRF319) card. If the panel shipped with a 345 or 433 card, the PIR-DUAL won't learn in on 319.5. Verify the card under Settings → Advanced Settings → Installation → Devices, or on the panel's RF card label, before committing to the install.
STEP 01

Open the Auto Learn screen

On the IQ Panel 4 touchscreen, swipe down and tap Settings → Advanced Settings, enter your installer or dealer code, then go to Installation → Devices → Security Sensors → Auto Learn Sensor.

STEP 02

Trip the PIR-DUAL to enroll

With the panel in Auto Learn, insert the battery (or open and close the cover tamper) on the PIR-DUAL. The panel chimes and displays the sensor's DL ID. Tap OK to confirm.

STEP 03

Confirm the source

The IQ Panel 4 auto-detects the incoming signal and sets the Source field for you. Because the PIR-DUAL transmits as a standard 319.5 MHz device (not an encrypted S-Line sensor), the Source reads 319 MHz. On 319.5 MHz there is no Loop field to set — a Loop number only appears for 345 MHz sensors on this panel.

STEP 04

Set sensor type and group

Choose Sensor Type: Motion, then pick the Sensor Group that matches the arming behavior you want. Group 17 — "Away-Instant Motion" is the usual choice for an interior PIR: it's active in Away and Night, trips instantly on motion, and won't trip if an entry/exit sensor is faulted first (interior-follower behavior).

STEP 05

Name it and add

Set the Sensor Name, Chime, and Voice Prompts from the drop-downs, then tap Add New to save the zone.

Walk-Test Before You Mount The PIR-DUAL is live about one minute after power-up and stays in walk-test mode for 5 minutes after the cover closes — the LED flashes for about 2 seconds on each detection. Walk the coverage area, wait for the LED to go out, then wait about 12 seconds before the next pass. After 5 minutes the LED disables and the sensor runs silently.

PANEL 02

Resideo PROA7 / PROA7PLUS — 345 MHz

What you need

  • PROA7 or PROA7PLUS control panel
  • PROTAKEOVER wireless converter module, rotary switch set to position 0 (5800 Series)
  • Installer code (default 4112)
  • PIR-DUAL set to 345 MHz (frequency switch OFF)
PROTAKEOVER Adds 345 MHz — and Runs Alongside PROSiX The PROA7/PROA7PLUS has a built-in PROSiX/SiX™ receiver at 2.4 GHz, but it needs the PROTAKEOVER module to hear legacy 319.5/345/433 MHz sensors. Install the module and set its rotary switch to 0 (5800 Series) to receive the PIR-DUAL on 345 MHz. The two radios coexist — per Resideo, the panel supports up to 250 total wireless zones, of which up to 127 can be PROSiX/SiX while the rest can be 5800-series. Adding the PIR-DUAL does not disable your existing PROSiX sensors.
STEP 01

Enter local programming

On the panel home screen, tap the Menu icon, select Tools, enter the installer code (default 4112), then open Programming.

STEP 02

Add a sensor

Go to the sensors/zones list and tap Add Sensor (the + in the upper-right). The panel drops into learn mode and prompts you to trip the device to pair.

STEP 03

Select sensor type: 5800 or Takeover

For a sensor coming in through the PROTAKEOVER module, choose the 5800 or Takeover sensor type. This tells the panel to expect a legacy transmitter rather than a PROSiX device.

STEP 04

Learn the serial number

Tap Learn, then trip the PIR-DUAL (insert the battery or open/close the cover) so the panel captures its serial number. You can also pick Add Manually and key in the serial — the panel accepts up to 7 digits.

STEP 05

Set zone, loop, and response

Accept the zone number (it defaults to the first open zone). For a 5800-style motion, set Loop 1, then choose a Device/Response type appropriate for an interior motion — an interior-follower response is the typical choice so the detector is bypassed automatically during entry/exit.

STEP 06

Name and save

Assign a zone descriptor (e.g., Living Room Motion) and save. You can also program the panel through AlarmNet 360 if you manage the account remotely. Run a walk-test to confirm coverage before mounting.

Pet immunity and false-alarm rejection

The PIR-DUAL uses two pyroelectric elements that alternate in polarity behind a precision multi-zone Fresnel lens. The lens splits the protected area into alternating detection zones, and a digital signal-processing engine only declares an alarm when it sees a qualified sequence of polarity changes — the signature of a person crossing the field of view. Drafts, sunlight through a window, and a dog crossing the floor don't produce that sequence, which is how the detector stays immune to pets up to 60 lb while still catching an intruder.

Aim matters: people are detected best moving across the coverage pattern, not straight at the sensor. Mount it 7.5 ft or 10 ft up, keep windows, vents, and heat sources out of the field of view, and position it so a likely path crosses the zones. Use high sensitivity where someone might only cross a short distance in view; normal sensitivity suits most rooms.

About the PIR-DUAL

The Versa Wireless PIR-DUAL is a wireless dual-element PIR motion detector for residential and light-commercial security. It runs on a single CR123A lithium battery for about five years, reports cover and wall tamper, and sends a supervisory check-in so the panel knows it's alive. If you only service 319.5 MHz Qolsys and Interlogix systems, the single-frequency PIR-319 covers that lane; the PIR-DUAL is for the mixed-panel reality most dealers actually live in. Frequently asked questions

Can one motion detector work on both Qolsys and Honeywell panels?

Yes. The PIR-DUAL has a frequency switch — set it to 319.5 MHz for Qolsys and GE/Interlogix, or 345 MHz for Honeywell 5800 and 2GIG. One SKU covers both ecosystems, so you carry a single motion detector instead of a different model for each brand.

Do I need anything extra to use the PIR-DUAL on a Qolsys IQ Panel 4?

The panel must have the 319.5 MHz RF daughter card installed. The IQ Panel 4 supports PowerG plus one legacy frequency (319.5, 345, or 433 MHz) depending on the card it shipped with — a 319.5 sensor only enrolls on a 319.5-equipped panel. Set the PIR-DUAL to 319.5 MHz (switch ON) and use Auto Learn Sensor.

How do I enroll the PIR-DUAL on a Resideo PROA7?

Set the PIR-DUAL to 345 MHz (switch OFF). The PROA7/PROA7PLUS needs the PROTAKEOVER module with its rotary switch on 0 (5800 Series). In Local Programming (Tools → installer code 4112 → Programming), choose Add Sensor, pick the "5800 or Takeover" type, learn the serial by tripping the sensor, set Loop 1, and assign an interior-follower response. PROTAKEOVER runs alongside the panel's built-in PROSiX sensors.

Is the PIR-DUAL pet immune?

Yes — up to 60 lb. Two pyroelectric elements and a digital signal-processing engine require a qualified sequence of polarity changes to declare an alarm, which rejects drafts, sunlight, and pets while still detecting a person crossing the coverage area.

What battery does the PIR-DUAL use and how long does it last?

One CR123A 3 V lithium battery, with about a 5-year typical life. The detector supervises itself and sends a low-battery report to the panel, so you get advance warning before it dies.
